National Spine & Pain Centers (NSPC) recently teamed up with Industrial Health to host a continuing education event for health professionals on the topic of non-surgical pain treatments and Workers’ Compensation. Industrial Health works exclusively with workers’ compensation cases and hosts quarterly meetings to provide updates on the industry.

Industrial Health’s June 6, 2018 meeting featured a presentation by Dr. Daniel Kendall from our McLean, VA office entitled “Non-surgical Treatments Facilitate Expedited Return to Work.” Industrial Health’s Monica Masson, PT, PGD, also shared her thoughts on “A Systematic Approach to the Rehabilitation of the Injured Worker.”

Dr. Kendall’s presentation included background on NSPC and provided an overview of minimally invasive interventional treatments. He stressed the importance of treatment with a pain specialist, including when referral is appropriate and how to communicate most effectively with the pain specialist team.

30 case managers attended the event, engaging in an informative Q&A regarding physician and physician assistant involvement in communicating with case managers. Several members of the audience were vocal about their experience working with NSPC and shared constructive feedback.

Dr. Daniel Kendall is one of the region’s most experienced physicians in minimally invasive fluoroscopic-guided procedures, including epidural nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, intradiscal electrothermal annuloplasty, vertebroplasty, spinal cord stimulation, and non-surgical disc decompression techniques. He has published articles and lectured nationally on a range of interventional pain management topics, including the use of spinal cord stimulation, thermal annuloplasty, and radiofrequency rhizotomy in treating back pain, as well as pharmacological approaches to chronic pain.
