Carey-Walter Closson, M.D. is practicing out of National Spine & Pain Centers’ Bowie, MD center. He believes in a multidisciplinary comprehensive and conservative approach catered to each individual patient’s needs. He believes that the goal in pain management should be to improve function, and to allow for improved quality of life through the appropriate treatment of pain.
Dr. Closson earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and then completed a General Surgery Internship at St. Agnes Hospital. He is Board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology and fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at the University of Maryland Department of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Closson is clinical Instructor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at University of Maryland, Dept. of Anesthesiology. He has given numerous lectures on low back pain, complex regional back pain syndrome, spinal cord and peripheral stimulation. His clinical expertise encompasses a variety of diagnostic specialties and treatments, including: Epidural Nerve Block, Facet Joint Injections, SI Joint Injection, Spinal Cord Stimulation, and Medial Branch Blocks.
