About Viren D. Desai, M.D.

Dr. Viren D. Desai treats patients in National Spine & Pain Centers’ Fayetteville office where he specializes in interventional pain management procedures, including epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, trigger point injections and spinal cord stimulation.

“The field of pain management presents opportunities to ease suffering by using advanced techniques to safely and precisely target the patient’s underlying cause of pain and provide relief,” he said. “I am especially excited about advances in regenerative medicine, which offers the most exciting and intriguing avenues for restoring and establishing improved or normal functioning.”

Dr. Desai serves as Medical Director for the NSPC’s North Carolina region, a position he formerly held with Interventional Pain Centers, which he founded in 2003. He also serves as a member of the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Management at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville. He practiced at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV, for six years as a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist and also served as a fellow of the Department of Cardiovascular Anesthesia at Emory University Hospital prior to moving to North Carolina.

Dr. Desai is board certified in Anesthesiology. He earned his medical degree from the Government Medical College in Surat, India before completing residencies in anesthesiology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He then completed a fellowship in cardiovascular anesthesia at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

“I understand that patients value action-based care,” Dr. Desai said. “We develop multi-modal treatment plans that offer various modalities and definitive steps to get their pain under control and keep it manageable.”

In his free time, Dr. Desai enjoys traveling, listening to music, attending concerts, and exercising.
