At some point in our lives, we all experience pain. Vanessa Gari MSN FNP-BC was attracted to the field of pain management because it is very important to her to be able to use tools to help people suffer less and improve their function and quality of life.
Vanessa joined the National Spine and Pain Centers Fayetteville office in March 2019 after previously working as a registered nurse at Carolina Infectious Disease – Healix, Miami Children’s Hospital and Palmetto General Hospital. She holds a master’s degree from the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Chamberlain University in Illinois and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.
She takes a holistic approach to pain management. “I believe in using a multimodal approach to improve my patient’s quality of life,” she said. “I want to use all of the tools I can think of to help manage their pain such as medication management, interventional procedures, physical therapy, psychological therapy and meditation.”
Each patient has a different back story of how their pain originally started. Vanessa believes in working together with the patient to provide a treatment plan that is individualized and tailored to meet their needs. “I want to encourage patients to be actively involved in their care and self-management,” she said.
Getting to know her patients and seeing them progress is very gratifying to Vanessa. “As a nurse, I realized that my passion is caring for people and guiding and educating them every step of the way,” she said.
In Vanessa’s downtime, she enjoys spending time with her husband and dog. She also likes traveling, hiking, boating and being outdoors.
