While working at several outpatient clinics during his graduate school studies at Shenandoah University, Michael Williams PA-C saw providers refer patients to pain management doctors to better treat their symptoms. “My curiosity for the outcome and management of the patients drew me to the pain management field,” he said.
Shortly after receiving his master’s degree in physician assistant studies, Michael joined the National Spine and Pain Centers Fredericksburg office in June 2019. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in psychology from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. He has previously worked as a credentialing clerk at Charles Regional Medical Center and an emergency medical technician for Mary Washington Hospital.
When putting together a treatment plan, Michael notes the patient is always the center and focus. He prefers alternatives to pain pharmaceuticals including trigger point injections, exercise and yoga. “Plans depend on patients and finding either holistic or ulterior approaches to management,” he said. “…Helping patients always drives me to work harder.”
Away from the office, Michael loves to kayak, spend time with his family and read.
