Michael O’Hara sees patients in the Freehold, Old Bridge, & Toms River, NJ offices of Premier Pain Centers, which recently joined forces with National Spine & Pain Centers, one of the nation’s largest pain management practices. Dr. O’Hara is a recognized leader in the field of pain management and specializes in complex pain cases and minimally invasive treatments for disorders of the spine.
Dr. O’Hara is board certified in both pain management and anesthesiology and offers more than 20 years of experience in these specialties. He has lectured extensively to physician groups, hospitals, case workers and community outreach programs, and has been sought after as an expert witness in the field of pain management.
“My goal is to never stop learning, so I am committed to continuing my training in order to stay at the forefront of new technologies and treatments in spinal care and pain management,” he said. “It may sound unoriginal but I entered into the specialty of pain management with the sincere desire to help people. To ease human suffering is a worthwhile endeavor.”
In addition to his role as a managing director of Premier Pain Centers, Dr. O’Hara co-founded the New Jersey Center for Pain Management and New Jersey Ambulatory Anesthesia Associates. In addition to his work at Premier Pain Centers, he also serves as the director of anesthesia services at Central Jersey Surgery Center, Physicians SurgiCenter (Toms River), and Ocean Surgery Center.
Dr. O’Hara received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, finishing in the top 5 percent of his class. He completed a residency in anesthesiology at the prestigious Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he also completed his fellowship in pain management.
“My patients are not just an imaging study and a list of complaints. I believe each person should be treated as the individual they are, unique and deserving of respect and the right to be heard,” he said. “I also expect people to be responsible and help me by participating in their care.”
In his free time, Dr. O’Hara enjoys spending time with his wife and children, who he proudly declares “are the most important things in my life.”
