About Michael W. Morton, MPAS, PA-C

Mike Morton is a certified physician assistant in National Spine & Pain Centers’ Harrisonburg and Charlottesville, VA offices where he conducts patient examinations, orders and interprets laboratory tests and diagnostic studies, implements patient treatment plans, and administers interventional treatments such as trigger point and joint injections.

A decorated Navy veteran with 28 years of service, Morton served as a physician assistant at Navy clinics around the world, including in combat zones. Working with our nation’s wounded warriors, he gained tremendous insights into the issues surrounding chronic pain management, including how it affects mental health and physiological well-being. “I had multiple combat deployments and have seen first-hand what chronic pain does to a person’s psyche,” he said.

Following his retirement from the Navy and prior to joining National Spine & Pain Centers, Morton served as a clinical support specialist at Veterans Administration outpatient clinics throughout the United States where he was involved in all aspects of patient care, including the use of opioid and non-opioid medications as well as physical therapy, chiropractic and other alternative medical treatment to help patients overcome their pain. “Not all pain is straight-forward,” he said. “My years in the Navy and at VA clinics taught me the importance of being willing to think outside the box.”

Morton earned his bachelor’s degree from George Washington University in physician assistant studies and his master’s in PA studies from the University of Nebraska. Prior to that, he also earned degrees in applied mathematics and bio-statistics. A life-long learner, he also holds a doctorate in applied mathematics.

Over the course of his nearly three decades of service to the U.S. Navy, Morton earned scores of military honors, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal and Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, camping and working on his golf game.
