About

Primary Specialties: Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, Pain Medicine (Board Certified)

Someone asked Dr. Holland if he gets tired of working all day with those who are suffering and in pain. “The thing is, I never do,” he responded. “Most of my patients are highly motivated people who have pain that keeps them from doing what they love. When we can treat the pain and restore function, our patients can return to their passions, and they are incredibly appreciative. What an honor to be a part of that process!”

Dr. Holland joined National Spine & Pain Centers in early 2014 after moving from Tucson, AZ.

Dr. Holland has a special interest in treating occupational injuries (workers’ compensation), but he enjoys seeing other patients as well. He also performs Independent Medical Examinations. He manages patients with multiple treatment methods including interventional techniques, injection therapies and medications.

He performs interventional pain management procedures including:

  • Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy
  • Prolotherapy
  • Epidural Injections
  • Nerve Block Techniques
  • Radiofrequency Neurotomy (uses heat to deaden nerves)
  • Kyphoplasty/Vertebroplasty (relieves spinal compression fractures)
  • Spinal Cord Stimulation (implantable pain control device)

He has lectured nationally on topics about pain medicine. Dr. Holland serves as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Although he grew up in Houston, Texas, Dr. Holland has had a special place in his heart for central Virginia since completing his residency at the University of Virginia. In his free time, he enjoys mountain biking, trail running (at an embarrassingly slow pace, he says) and spending time with his family.

I received complete pain relief since the last time I had injections I I may have waited too long to reschedule.

I have followed Dr. Holland from the Lynchburg office to Charlottesville, so it's been a number of years. I really do love and appreciate the way Dr. Holland treats me and my pain. Dr. Holland in particular, makes me feel that he understands and believes me and the suffering that the long standing pain issues have taken on my life. I feel sure that he does the same for all of his patients. We have tried other methods through the years to deal with multiple issues. Some have worked, some not, but the effort was made. Also, when I had issues with CVS filling my opioid medication (multiple times) Dr. Holland went to bat for me, sometimes over the weekend, to right the wrong that CVS was dishing out, and get my medication filled before I had adverse reactions. I also have heard that he and others within National Spine and Pain Centers go to bat for patients rights to pain management when legislation is on the table. A fact that I so appreciate. I will stay with Dr. Holland, and NSPC as long as they are there.
