“Pain is complex in that while it is common to everyone at some point in life, it is also distinctly unique to each person. It can be a symptom for some and a disease for others… not only affecting people physically but in many other aspects as well. This complexity is at the forefront of my thinking while formulating a holistic treatment plan for my patients,” Ortega stated.
Ortega began her education at Northern Virginia Community College where she completed her Associate of Science. After graduating with honors, she began volunteering in the Emergency Department at the Novant Health Prince William Medical Center Emergency Department. Wanting to further her career in the medical field, Ortega attended George Mason University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology. It was during this time Ortega completed a series of clinical rotations where she gained experience in various practices in the medical field. She worked with patients in pediatrics, family practices, and general surgery, as well as specialized fields such as behavioral medicine, orthopedics, and gynecology and obstetrics.
Among her medical career, Ortega is also very involved in her community. She has worked with children at the Ronald McDonald House and performed sports physicals for children in Orlando. Ortega has also volunteered at the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida where she performed first aid care and vitals for patients of all ages. Donating her time and skills to the community, near and far, is important to Ortega.
