Jennifer Miramontes is a family nurse practitioner in National Spine & Pain Centers Lumberton, NC office, where she assists the physicians with initial patient assessments, procedure follow-ups and treatment plan monitoring.
Miramontes has more than 17 years of nursing experience, both as a registered nurse and as a certified nurse practitioner. Her work in hospital settings and pain management practices gives her particular insights into the challenges facing those who are struggle with pain. “I believe pain should be treated using a multi-disciplinary approach that uses many different modalities, including complementary and alternative treatments such as acupuncture, therapeutic massage, yoga and meditation,” she said.
Miramontes earned an associate’s degree in nursing at Fayetteville Community College in Fayetteville before earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. She completed her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Alaska in Anchorage and earned certification as a family nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Advances in the field of pain management offer great hope for patients dealing with chronic pain, Miramontes said. “The emerging field of pharmacogenetics means we can test to see how a person’s unique genes will respond to certain medications and stem cell therapy uses an individual’s own cells to help their body heal from injury,” she said. “I wanted to work in a specialty where I could make a difference in people’s lives and pain management has the ability to relieve a patient’s suffering and help them live the life they choose without limitations.”
In her free time, Ms. Miramontes enjoys spending time with her three children, traveling, and reading.
