As a physician with Manhattan Spine & Pain Medicine, Dr. Gerard DeGregoris joined National Spine & Pain Centers through a partnership in late 2013. He is an interventional pain management physician who specializes in debilitating and painful conditions of the spine, chest wall and large joints. His practice is focused on injection-based and non-narcotic therapy options for acute and chronic pain.
Dr. DeGregoris started with Manhattan Spine & Pain Medicine in 2012 after working as an anesthesiologist at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and as an instructor in anesthesiology at the Weill Cornell Medical College. He had previously completed his residency and his pain management fellowship at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
During his residency, Dr. DeGregoris was chosen as co-chief resident and led an initiative to reorganize anesthesiology supplies and operating room procedures to improve patient safety. “As a board certified anesthesiologist, I am trained to pay special attention to the multi-system effects that medications and procedures have on the human body” said Dr. DeGregoris. “I apply this experience to my clinical practice of pain management every day.”
An avid athlete himself, Dr. DeGregoris’ main goal is to improve his patients’ functionality–enabling them to return to the lifestyle and activities that make them happy. He strongly believes in multi-modal approaches to healing pain syndromes, incorporating the expertise of his colleagues – physiatrists, neurologists, physical therapists, acupuncturists, chiropractors, massage therapists and orthopedists – into his patient care plan. He sets aside time several times each week to attend meetings and lectures in these related disciplines.
Dr. DeGregoris understands that every patient has different priorities, lifestyles and goals. “I always create a customized care plan that will fit each patient’s specific schedule and provide him or her with the best chance of relief,” said Dr. DeGregoris. He prides himself in his ability to listen to and summarize his patients’ thoughts, concerns and fears. He is currently accepting new patients.
In his spare time, Dr. DeGregoris is an accomplished sailor and skier, and follower of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame (he’s a summa cum laude graduate).
