Faurn Harrison is a certified physician assistant in National Spine & Pain Center’s Bowie, MD office. She collaborates with Dr. Carey-Walter Closson on all aspects of patient care, including initial assessments, pre-procedure reviews, pain management and post-procedure follow-up.
She brings extensive experience in the diagnosis, treatment and management of chronic pain to her patients, having spent four years in interventional pain management prior to joining National Spine & Pain Centers. She is well-versed in all aspects of interventional, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, including epidurals, facet nerve root blocks, spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pain pumps, to name a few.
Having seen the impact chronic pain can have on patients, she is especially committed to addressing the emotional component of pain management. “I spend a lot of time listening to my patients,” she said. “I try to help them understand how emotional and social issues can affect their pain so that they can be more aware of potential lifestyle changes that may benefit them.”
Harrison grew up in the Washington D.C. area and graduated summa cum laude from Howard University with a bachelor’s degree in physician assistant studies. She is certified as a physician assistant in Maryland and is accredited by numerous organizations, including the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and the State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for Dangerous and Controlled Substances (CDS).
In her free time, Harrison enjoys creative pursuits, including photography, cooking and sketch art.
