Dr. Kim’s interest in pain management began at an early age. His father served in the South Korean Army as a physician after graduating from medical school at Seoul National University. Dr. Kim’s father then immigrated to the United States over 40 years ago, specialized in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and opened his own successful medical practice. Inspired by his father’s dedication to his patients and difference he made in the lives of others, Dr. Kim followed in his footsteps by serving too in the US military and pursuing a medical career in the same specialty. Dr. Kim strives daily to practice in the mold of his father who garnered respect from countless patients and colleagues over a long and productive career.
Dr. Kim began his medical career as a General Medical Officer in the US Army, treating numerous musculoskeletal, sports and spine-related conditions. His service also included a yearlong deployment to Iraq as the Battalion Surgeon of an infantry unit during which time he rendered medical care to military personnel in a remote aid station. For his efforts, Dr. Kim was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Upon fulfillment of his active duty commitment in 2006 and having attained a wealth of medical experience in treating injuries involving the neck, back and joints of both office-based and urgent care patients, Dr. Kim subsequently completed his residency at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) followed by a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
In his spare time, he enjoys supporting sports teams from his home state of Michigan, studying the Korean language, and spending time with his wife, son and daughter.
