About Crystal A. Lee, FNP

The best part of Crystal A. Lee’s job as a nurse practitioner is interacting with her patients. “I enjoy hearing their stories and watching them progress toward a better quality of life,” she said. “…Pain management can be a long and difficult journey and I feel privileged to be a part of the care team.”

Crystal joined the National Spine and Pain Centers McLean office as a Family Nurse Practitioner in January 2019 and brings with her 11 years experience as a registered nurse previously working with orthopedic and spine patients in Hawaii and Virginia. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Hawaii Pacific University and a master’s degree from Georgetown University, both in nursing.

She was drawn to pain management because she could still work with orthopedic and spine patients — a population she finds challenging yet very rewarding to work with on a daily basis. “I loved being an orthopedic nurse, however, I wanted to take on a more active role in helping my patients achieve a better quality of life,” she said. “…I have a deep understanding of the complexity of issues that accompany chronic pain and I make it a priority to treat my patients with compassion and respect.”

When developing a treatment plan, Crystal believes it is important to take the time to talk with patients about their condition and prior treatments. “A comprehensive history helps me get a better idea of what treatment options exist that best address the patient’s condition,” she said. “I believe that building a treatment plan is a collaborative process between healthcare provider and patient and should include both nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic interventions when needed.” The individualized treatment plan is created to reflect the patient’s personal values and attainable functional goals.

Out of the office, Crystal can be found outside — either hiking, running or participating in 5K events. When the weather keeps her indoors, she enjoys reading books and visiting the many museums in the nation’s capital.
