“Pain is universal but suffering is optional”
Expertly trained and experienced, Dr. B is the Medical Director of NSPC Arlington. She strives to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the overall condition and co-create a customized care plan with each patient. Embodying her treatment philosophy, she keeps in mind the very unique individual effect of both chronic and acute pain on each one of us.
“Growing up in a family of doctors, I remember most of our dinner conversations being about the medical practice of my parents”, she says. Being able to add to the conversation since her entry into the field, and the lifelong active and passive immersion into the world of patient care has provided her with a deep appreciation of the doctor-patient relationship, and the profoundly positive impact of a successful and lasting treatment not only on the patient but also on their family and social functioning.
“I am just as excited and challenged today as I was years ago, on my first day as a newly minted Dr!” she says. Often musing that she is a lifelong student, her interactions with her patients are equally therapeutic to her, giving her endless joy and drive as she continually updates her skills and masters emerging techniques such as minimally invasive spine implants and spinal decompression techniques, for the benefit of her patients.
Her decision to specialize in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation for residency training was fostered by an unwavering desire to help improve functional health and quality of life above all else. She then built on that foundation during her fellowship training where she advanced her skills and interventional pain management techniques and electrodiagnostic medicine.
Her expertise includes spinal injections, nerve blocks, percutaneous intradiscal therapies, neuromodulation at the dorsal column, DRG, and peripheral field. She is also an experienced provider of balloon kyphoplasty and vertebral augmentation at both spinal and sacral levels, as well as radiofrequency ablation.
Percutaneous nucleoplasty, spinal and peripheral radiofrequency neurotomy, intrathecal drug delivery systems, management of pain pumps for chronic pain, peripheral chemo Jenervation and Botox for dystonia, migraines, and spasticity round out her repertoire.
Dr. B is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain management. She maintains active memberships and the American Society of interventional pain physicians, the International Spine Intervention Society, the North American Spine Society, and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
An advocate for strong patient involvement, Dr. B consistently tries to achieve successful results by dialoguing openly with patients to fully appreciate their expectations and to keep them informed and actively engaged in establishing and maintaining their treatment program ” I will offer the care and expertise, but you offer me your interest in participation so that we can come up with a progressive prevention plan for your future”. This is her mantra for creating lasting outcomes for patients and the many patients stories featured on our website are a testament to this.
During her leisure time, Dr. B enjoys singing Southern Indian Classical music. She can also be found riding her motorcycle on the scenic parkways along with her husband. An avid certified scuba diver and bicycle enthusiast, she pursues these interests along with her children and loves to travel. She is multilingual and fluent in Hindi, Telugu, and Urdu. She is currently expanding her Spanish medical vocabulary to better communicate with her diverse patient population in Northern VA.
