About

Primary Specialties: Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (Board Certified), Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Dr. Scott Sherman knows practicing medicine is a unique profession.

“Patients come to us in need and ask us for help,” he said. “In doing so, they invite us into their lives with few barriers. This is a humbling experience and a solemn responsibility. I feel privileged every day to be provided that kind of trust by my patients. Helping them feel less pain, function better, have a better quality of life and enjoy their families more is incredibly satisfying professionally and personally.”

Dr. Sherman has brought his expertise to the National Pain Institute since 2008 and serves as the Orlando location’s medical director. He also is a sub investigator at the National Pain Research Institute conducting clinical trials.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in zoology with a focus on human anatomy and physiology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, he completed his Doctor of Chiropractic at the Iowa-based Palmer College of Chiropractic.

For five years, he worked as a chiropractic physician primarily working with neck and back pain patients. “I decided that I wanted to expand my treatment options to help these patients,” he said.

He returned to medical school and earned his Doctor of Medicine from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles.

State University of New York, University of Buffalo was the site of his internal medicine internship and physical medicine and rehabilitation residency. By going back to school, Dr. Sherman was able to greatly expanded the options he can offer to his patients including helping with their pain ailments and providing them with the most comprehensive care possible.

The pain management field continues to evolve with exciting new treatments and technologies. Dr. Sherman has been following developments with neuromodulation, spinal stimulation and intrathecal drug delivery.

“They both offer the ability to change the pain experience for a patient by fundamentally changing what is happening in the nervous system instead of simply covering up the pain with medications that may have significant side effects,” he said. “These treatments have the best evidence of long term success of anything we have to offer and I am always excited and enthusiastic about offering these excellent therapies to my patients with the aim of decreasing their pain and improving their ability to function, and their quality of life.”

Medications are one part of Dr. Sherman’s multimodal treatment approach which includes physical therapy/exercise and appropriate interventional procedures. “I strive to use the most effective combination of medications for my patients with each patient receiving an individualized medications plan as part of their overall larger treatment plan,” he said. “...Every patients pain is different and unique so every patient deserves an individualized treatment program utilizing all of the tools available to use to address their needs in the most comprehensive, effective and safest manner possible.”

Away from the office, Dr. Sherman can be found outside either riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle or snow skiing in Jackson Hole, WY.

Number one the staff from the time I walk in the building I was well greeted from the time I've been coming to the building it's a young man to be at the front desk always call me by my name freaks me out make me feel like I'm part of a family when someone call you by your name it means a lot it seems like he know more about me that I told him he is always so kind he always go above and beyond to solve whatever issues I have especially with making my appointments and reaching out to my primary I don't know his name but he's the only black guy that works to the front desk and the doctor my doctor always give to me his best opinion and that means a lot to me when you go into a doctor that makes you feel like family and not a patient that is more a patient can ask for I love this place

Compared to other Doctors, it is relatively easy to get an appointment. Dr. Sherman is a straight shooter and takes as long as necessary for each appointment. The staff is super helpful.
