Manhattan Spine & Pain Medicine (MSPM) was founded in 2003 by Dr. Sanjay Bakshi. Since then, the practice has grown to four physicians, three physician assistants and five locations in New York and New Jersey. His vision is to help patients return to “an active, productive life as quickly as possible.”
Dr. Bakshi and his colleagues continue to be leaders in the pain management specialty. As president of the New York chapter of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, Dr. Bakshi is in the unique position to bring new industry innovations and standards to the practice.
Dr. Steve M. Aydin has authored several publications, as well as lectured on topics in Physical Medicine and Pain Management. He has received the 2014 Teacher of the Year Award at Hofstra North Shore – LIJ Medical School. He has also won 1st prize in the Hofstra North Shore – LIJ Medical School Research Day in 2014.
In 2013, MSPM became affiliated with National Spine & Pain Centers, one of the largest pain management practices on the east coast. This partnership has benefited patients by allowing access to better practice management resources and research opportunities.
Manhattan Spine and Pain offers a vast array of interventional and non-interventional solutions for patients with pain including steroid injections, platelet-rich-plasma injections, and spinal cord stimulation. Together, these four physicians aim to integrate their various areas of expertise, find novel applications of cutting-edge scientific technologies, and develop an individualized plan to improve the quality of their patients’ lives.
Our Awards & Accreditations
Our physicians place a special emphasis on education, tirelessly lecturing and raising awareness about pain medicine nationally and internationally. They are educators themselves, each serving the pain medicine community with their specific skills:
- Dr. Sanjay Bakshi has coauthored books on pain management and lectures extensively in the US and abroad.
- Dr. Steve M. Aydin received the 2014 Teacher of the Year Award at Hofstra North Shore LIJ Medical School.
- Dr. Sudhir Diwan serves on the editorial board of Pain Physician, a publication of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
- Dr. Gerard DeGregoris III, has authored articles on anesthesiology and pain management in peer reviewed journals, and has delivered several lectures on pain management topics at medical conferences and hospital grand rounds.
Dr. Bakshi was recognized as one of America’s Most Compassionate Doctors by Patients’ Choice. This award is based on patient reviews and of the nation’s 720,000 active physicians, less than 3% were accorded this honor by their patients in 2010.
Trained in some of the nation’s most prestigious medical facilities, our pain specialists are trained in either physiatry or anesthesiology. These board-certified physicians and physician assistants have been selected for their compassion and understanding.
Dr. Diwan, pain management specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital, was named the Outstanding Pain Physician of 2013 by the New York and New Jersey Societies of Interventional Pain Physicians.
All are highly qualified professionals who recognize the impact that intractable pain has on one’s life. All have extraordinary diagnostic and therapeutic skills, and reflect Manhattan Spine & Pain Medicine’s attentive, personalized approach to patient care.
Our goal is to provide patients with the most comprehensive approach to pain management available. We continually evaluate new and developing diagnostic tools and treatments, selecting only those with the best proven results to include in our repertoire of services, including recent advances in regenerative therapies by Dr. Steve M. Aydin.
