Advanced Medical Group (AMG) was founded by Dr. Paul J. Kuzma in April 2015 as a way to give patients dealing with chronic and acute pain a growing number of medical options including injections, ablation, spinal cord stimulators and platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatments.
Dr. Kuzma is the only board certified and fellowship trained pain management physician in Pinehurst, N.C. He specializes in diagnosis and treatment of degenerative and painful spinal conditions such as degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis and spinal pain after surgery.
Kuzma became a doctor after a six-year advanced biomedical education program through Union College and Albany Medical College earning his undergraduate and medical school degree just six years after high school at the age of 23. He spent nearly a decade at Walter Reed Army Medical Center beginning with completing his anesthesiology residency and rising to become their chief of pain management services.
From 2001 to 2015, he served as a partner for Pinehurst Anesthesia Associates at First Health Moore Regional Hospital.
“My goal (for patients) is function and quality of life. We try to listen to each person, understand what their goals are and come up with a plan that will let them meet their goals and that can be different for everybody.” – Paul Kuzma, M.D.
Many people think if they have pain, they need to have surgery. Dr. Kuzma has seen a number of patients who still have discomfort after they were sent by their primary care physician to a surgeon. “Just because you have back pain or joint pain that doesn’t mean you need surgery,” Dr. Kuzma said. “There are non-surgical options that can help you.”
AMG offers a comprehensive range of innovative technologies and regenerative therapies to help the chronic and acute pain. Some include:
- Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) uses a concentration of your own natural platelets and growth factors to facilitate healing and regeneration of injured tissues.
- Providers also use injections as a great tool for relieving pain including trigger point to help reduce knotted or tight areas of muscle just under the skin, facet joint aimed at small joints located between each vertebra and sacroiliac (SI) joint designed to help the lower back, buttocks, growing, and legs.
- Medial Branch Blocks are designed to interrupt pain signals sent from the medial branch nerves which supply the facet joint.
While symptoms and conditions may be similar, treating pain for each patient is a unique experience. Featuring state of the art equipment, AMG is the only practice in the area that performs regenerative therapy to include Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and injection of regenerative cells for repair and healing of musculoskeletal degeneration and injury.
